Thatcher Owuor has curved out his niche and set himself up as a most formidable litigator with fluency in Dispute Resolution, under the tutelage of Mr. James Singh Gitau.  His signature style when handling cases sees him go beyond his stead for his clients.

It comes as no surprise, that Thatcher Owuor, who joined the firm as a Pupil has risen through the ranks to become a partner at LJA Associates LLP.

Having completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Kabarak in 2014, Thatcher went on to undertake the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law and became an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 2017.

  1. Advising Zakhem International Construction Limited in relation to opposing injunctive orders sought by Ecobank Kenya & Ecobank Nigeria Limited, restraining its group of companies located in several countries from disposing any of their assets/accounts in Kenya and as well as a mandatory injunction requiring all proceeds under a disputed agreement worth USD 52.3 Million between Zakhem and Kenya Pipeline Company to be remitted to Ecobank.
  2. Successfully advising and representing the Heineken Group, a Dutch brewing company, in connection with a disputed termination of distribution agreements in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania by vacating an interim injunction obtained by the distributors to stop the intended termination in the 3 countries. Judgment was delivered against Heineken in 2019 and we are working on the Appeal. We successfully obtained orders of stay it in 2019.   3. Represented ICEA Lion in the conveyance of the former ICEA Building (Nairobi CBD) to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
  4. Successfully representing ICEA Lion in the subsequent litigation that ensued following Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology’s failure to pay VAT as per the terms of the sale agreement.
  5. Successfully filing a Judicial Review Application objecting to the award of the Tender for the printing of the new Kenya currency bank notes to an International Company in a contract worth over USD 105 Million in 2017 resulting in the cancellation of the award and a re-tendering process conducted by the Central Bank of Kenya. http://kenyalaw.org/caselaw/cases/view/150824.
  6. Advising clients on various Insolvency and Bankruptcy proceedings – in terms if instituting and prosecuting such proceedings as well as responding to them.
  7. Successfully advising and representing an Insurance Company in connection with an Application to strike off an insolvency petition filed by one of its Clients.
  8. Advising several insurance companies against claims by their insured.
  9. Successfully defending an Estate estimated at KES 1 Billion and successfully challenging reasonable provision of KES 50 Million ordered by Court to an alleged dependant.
  10. Successfully representing a company that terminated its employees and challenging employees claim for KES 19 Million.
